The short version

A considered choice.
A clear reason.

Our featured choice for a permanent basement or crawl-space dehumidification project where drainage and installation can be planned properly. It is worth considering when you want a ductable unit rather than a portable bucket-emptying routine.

How we choose →
01

Designed for a permanent setup

The E070 is marketed for crawl spaces, basements, and whole-home applications.

02

A meaningful sizing reference

AprilAire lists 70 pints per day and coverage up to 2,200 square feet. Actual conditions still determine the load.

03

Think through the drain

A planned drainage route is central to a permanent installation. Confirm whether gravity drainage works or a separate pump is needed.

Find your fit

Right for your home?

A good recommendation includes the reasons to choose something else.

Try the planning tool ↓

A good fit when…

  • You are planning a permanent installation with a reliable drain.
  • You have checked physical access and airflow clearances.
  • Your moisture load has been assessed beyond square footage alone.

Keep in mind

  • A dehumidifier does not repair leaks or water intrusion.
  • Coverage is manufacturer guidance, not a guarantee for every space.
  • Ducting, installation, and a condensate pump may add to the project cost.

One shortlist. Three routes.

02 / The alternative

AprilAire E080

An 80-pint-per-day alternative within the AprilAire range when a sizing assessment calls for more capacity than the E070.

  • 80 pints/day rated
  • Whole-home / basement use
  • Higher rated capacity than E070

More capacity does not replace sizing. Confirm dimensions and exact installation requirements.

03 / The alternative

ALORAIR Sentinel HD55S

Listed at 55 pints per day at 80°F and 60% relative humidity, with gravity drainage. A smaller-capacity model to consider after sizing.

  • 55 pints/day at 80°F / 60% RH
  • Gravity drainage
  • Automatic defrost

Before you decide

A few good
questions.

The details that matter before the buy button.

Is the E070 enough for 2,200 square feet?

AprilAire lists coverage up to 2,200 square feet. Temperature, air leakage, moisture entry, and layout can change the load significantly. Use the rating as an initial reference and get installation-specific sizing advice.

Will it fix a wet crawl space?

It removes moisture from air; it does not stop groundwater, repair plumbing leaks, or replace drainage and moisture-control work. Address the source of water first.

Does it require ductwork?

The installation arrangement depends on the application. Check the E070 manual and discuss standalone versus ducted placement, airflow, and access with the installer.

Does a higher pint rating always mean a better choice?

No. Compare ratings measured under the same conditions, then consider the actual load, installation space, power requirements, and support. Saturation ratings and standard-condition ratings are not interchangeable.
